Amber Film & Photography Collective and BFI Doc Society have teamed up to launch a brand new programme for filmmakers in our region: Docs North East. Taking place at Side Gallery and Side Cinema, these five free events are designed to inspire, connect and support those with a passion for documentary storytelling and production and feature panel discussions with industry professionals, Q&As, filmmaker forums and an open screen scratch night.

The events include the Docs North-East Launch on Saturday 12th February which looks at the power of creative networks and collaborative working and ends on a filmmakers forum to discuss the current landscape in the region. This is followed by the first speaker session on Tuesday 15th February with a panel discussion with successful filmmaker Katja Roberts and Maxy Bianco who will be exploring how to sustain a career in film.

The second speaker session with Paul Sng and Jen Corcoran takes place on Thursday 17th February explores funding models that sit outside of traditional broadcast or commissioning pathways. The third (on Tuesday 22nd February), features veterans of the documentary festival and talent development circuits Sirkka Möller and Melanie Iredale and aims to demystify some of the processes around the national  and international festival scene, and routes to getting your work in front of the right people.

The final event takes place on Thursday 24th February is the Open Screen Scratch Night which has ten slots of ten minutes for filmmakers to introduce themselves and their films, pitch ideas for possible collaborations and ask for feedback.
