After closing its doors due to lack of funding, the Newcastle-based photo and film gallery is asking for donations to enable it to reopen
After 45 years as a dedicated home to documentary film and photography, Side Gallery has had to close its doors to the public due to critical funding cuts and the ‘cost of living crisis’.
The gallery’s mission was to be an agent for change through the commission, exhibition, and preservation of world-class visual stories that highlight social concerns and celebrate diverse lives and landscapes across the Northeast, UK, and the globe. These stories are what shape us and can be used so that future generations can learn from our past mistakes and triumphs and so it is important that this freely accessible cultural resource is allowed to provide a platform for them.
The small team at Side Gallery are doing everything they can to secure additional funding. However, the future’s uncertain and they now face the possibility of permanent closure.
The #SaveSide campaign is asking for your support to help them reopen in September 2024. If you can donate anything to help them achieve their target of £60,000, then click here.
