Newcastle Arts Centre plays host to ECLECTICUS, a striking new collection of drawings and sculptures by local artist Nick Banks. Running from Friday 19th September through to Saturday 31st October, the exhibition marks a deliberate, captivating departure from singular thematic constraint, instead gathering a rich sprawl of captured moments, found objects, fleeting memories, and evolving forms.

Banks describes the work as stuff that just popped into his head out of nowhere—”like figures emerging from the mist.” Instead of forcing everything to fit one strict theme, he just went with whatever idea felt right in the moment. That means you get a bit of everything: detailed pencil and acrylic drawings on paper (like the intriguing Spirit of Klaus Rinke) sitting alongside quirky, intricate 3D sculptures.

It’s an invitation to step inside an artist’s unfiltered internal landscape, where disparate influences collide and coalesce in real time. Culture hounds can also catch an Artist’s Preview on Saturday 26th September, offering a chance to meet Banks in person and toast the collection.

ECLECTICUS runs at Newcastle Arts Centre from 19th September to 31st October.
