Reliably informed

A big moment of heartbreak for the North East music scene in 2018, was the passing away of much-loved musician Aran Glover. A celebration of his life and legacy fronting the band We Are Knuckle Dragger and other musical projects has been organised to take place at Cluny 2 on Saturday 12th January.

All funds will be donated to the local charity If U Care Share Foundation (IUCSF), who provide support around the prevention of suicide and to promote positive mental health in and around the North East of England. The charity was established to bring awareness of the issues around suicide and to deliver services to support those affected by it.

The bands involved have pulled together to honour the life and memory of a key part of our region’s music scene, and George Lee Ward from Dragnet tells us more about Aran Glover.

I first met Aran shapeshifting his way around various bands, friends, social scenes in and around Newcastle for years. His number never hit or put a dent in my air/our airwaves initially but his impact would leave a dramatic crater on our lives both artistically and emotionally.

From carousing beer sodden bar crawls, sweat soaked scream fests in each others bands rehearsal spaces to sharing stories, songs, lives and love. Aran was a part of Dragnet and we were a part of him. We shared stages, laughs, ideas, hopes, inspiration/aspiration and everything in-between. His love of DIY chic and that dictionary example sheer determination and will drove him and all of us to places we may never visited.

On a personal note, me and Aran worked together, played together, laughed together, shared highs/lows together, wrote songs together, spent a million life times in that small opening in the universe we were lucky that we met each other together and his loss is a hole I will always hold within my heart. His impact upon our music scene, our friendships, our lives is timeless and will never die. I could not not think of anything more fitting than playing this show, with his North East brothers and sisters and hitting the heavens with volume and love. Aran Glover from us as a collective, you will forever be loved and missed.

The Aran Glover Tribute Show is at Cluny 2, Newcastle on Saturday 12th January.
