Formed in 2016, the first couple of EPs from Newcastle stoner rockers Dunes drew comparison to Queens of the Stone Age, and it was easy to see why. In the new year the band will release their third album and with it they are stepping further and further away from the monicker of the North East’s answer to QOTSA.
Sure, the tracks tread the familiar ground of easily and immediately accessible stoner and desert rock with sprawling, grand hooks and choruses that centre around a main, meaty riff. The band will never stray too far from their influences, and why should they? On new album Land of the Blind however, they lay down some grooves and arguably some of their biggest melodies yet meaning that should you enjoy the likes of QOTSA, Kyuss or Fu Manchu, then you should probably give it a listen, but you will find a band that continue to find their footing with each release and seemingly grow more confident in expressing themselves more authentically and with more authority.
