Reliably informed

A big moment of heartbreak for the North East music scene in 2018, was the passing away of much-loved musician Aran Glover. A celebration of his life and legacy fronting the band We Are Knuckle Dragger and other musical projects has been organised to take place at Cluny 2 on Saturday 12th January.

All funds will be donated to the local charity If U Care Share Foundation (IUCSF), who provide support around the prevention of suicide and to promote positive mental health in and around the North East of England. The charity was established to bring awareness of the issues around suicide and to deliver services to support those affected by it.

The bands involved have pulled together to honour the life and memory of a key part of our region’s music scene, and David Smith from Sapien Records tells us more about Aran Glover.

Personally, Aran was the chap who gave me the green light to roll up the sleeves and to really jump feet first into the business of music. He was game for anything which was suggested, however wild or adventurous the plans were, which I think spurred us all on creatively (We Are Knuckle Dragger / Sapien Records) and we always up the level together. Aran’s ideas, presence and energy were second to none – without him or his music, we certainly wouldn’t have gained the experience and stories which we hold dear and still regularly talk about.

I’m looking forward to celebrating his life with everyone else in the only way which he would have wanted; catching up with old friends and acquaintances, having the craic with bands over a drink, and I know for sure he will be with us all, front row center, loving the bands on a bill which he would have no doubt curated himself.

The Aran Glover Tribute Show is at Cluny 2, Newcastle on Saturday 12th January.
