Reliably informed

Welcome to Doorstep Interview where we find out more about the amazing bands and artists that we’ve got right here in the north east. This time, Nathan from Warning! gives us a brief overview of what the band are all about.

Tell us a bit about yourself. Who are you, where are you from?

Partly, I am Nathan. Collectively, we are Warning!. Residentially, from Gateshead.

What inspired you to first start making music?

When I was in primary school I discovered one of my friends had made his first foray into music, registering for guitar lessons at a local community centre. I deemed this an intriguing waste of my time and duly followed suit, learning rudimentary technique and the occasional standard to maintain interest. However, it wasn’t until I purchased a copy of Green Day’s American Idiot, aged 12, that I first became aware that music was something that I too could write. Musically speaking, having had a rather sheltered youth, I found the mix of blunt simplicity, elaborate song structures and venomous delivery intoxicating and inspiring in equal measures. This ultimately lit the songwriting spark within me, something that I’ve been unable to extinguish since.

Who would you say are your biggest influences?

I guess you could say my aforementioned primary school friend.

How would you describe your sound?

Dense, cathartic, visceral, loud, quiet, loud, rather family friendly.

Where do you see yourselves fitting into the local music scene?

I don’t really think we do. We are too “metal” for the indie kids and too “indie” for the metal heads, and we look like we are enjoying ourselves too much on stage apparently, which isn’t particularly trendy.

Tell us a bit about your live performances. What can we expect from a gig by Warning!?

A blur of bodies, noise and flesh. Something you won’t forget in a hurry.

Can you tell us what gigs you have planned in the region in the near future?

None in the region but our next gig is at Leeds Packhorse 8th May with our good London friends Odd Rival, probably the most underrated band in England right now.

“We are too “metal” for the indie kids and too “indie” for the metal heads”

What do you think has been your biggest achievement so far as a band?

I think the fact we haven’t intentionally physically harmed one another yet is a miracle.

Have there been any major challenges so far in your musical career?

Trying to satisfy my inane need to achieve academically, something that society unfortunately had drilled into me from a young age. I feel this has stunted me as an artist.

What else have you got planned for the future?

World domination. If that fails, the domination of Low Fell, Gateshead will be settled for.

Warning! play at Leeds Packhorse on Friday 8th May.
