Sunderland Music City Radio is calling on local creatives to help shape the sound of the city ahead of its launch. The new online station, streaming via musiccity.uk, is inviting producers, musicians and sound‑makers from Sunderland (or those with strong ties to the city) to create custom idents that will form part of its on‑air identity, as well as encouraging Sunderland artists to submit tracks for airplay.

Jingles should be original, up to 10 seconds long, and include the line: “You’re listening to Sunderland Music City Radio.” Submissions can be sent as MP3s to [email protected]. Also, a track submitted by a local artist will be chosen at random to become the first song ever played on the station, so get your music in by Friday 27th February at midday to be in the running.

Backed by The Rank Foundation, the project aims to build a platform that reflects the depth and diversity of Sunderland’s music scene. Frankie Francis, Music Officer for Sunderland Music City, adds: “Sunderland is full of musical and creative talent, and this is about giving people a real chance to be part of the station’s sound. We don’t just want to play the sound of the city, we want the community to help create it.”
