The annual, open submission exhibition, hosted by the North of England Art Club and Newcastle Arts Centre, invites all North Eastern and Cumbrian artists to submit their artwork.
The Northern Summer Exhibition returns this year with an open call inviting artists from across the North East and Cumbria to submit work for its annual showcase at Newcastle Arts Centre, delivered in partnership with the North of England Art Club.
The exhibition brings together professionals, hobbyists and first‑time exhibitors, highlighting the range of artistic practice in the region. Since launching in 2023 it has grown steadily, with submissions doubling in 2024 and the 2025 edition featuring 124 works by 100 artists. Now firmly established in both organisations’ calendars, the exhibition aims to introduce new voices and strengthen the network of practising artists across the North.
Each year, three Best in Show titles are awarded — one selected by Newcastle Arts Centre, one by the North of England Art Club, and a public vote announced at the close of the exhibition. Winners receive £100 vouchers for Details Art Materials to support their ongoing practice.
