Reliably informed

As Sunderland Music City’s Year of Music draws to a close, Mackem legends The Futureheads bring the curtain down on a significant achievement for the city and it’s refreshed focus on music and the arts with a special hometown show.

Ross, Barry, Jaff and Dave lead an evening of conversation and music forming part of Summit Week Sunderland, the wraparound programme for the Music Cities Network Summer Summit, which is taking part in the UK for the very first time. Expect plenty of discussion around the bands 26-year career as well as live performances. The band will be lead in a career retrospective discussion by Frankie Francis and invited to talk the audience through their discography as well as their origins and their journey from a part of the city’s local music scene to international acclaim. The band will be unearthing some unseen photographs, recounting some stories from the road, sharing some anecdotes and talking about the local music scene and how it has changed over the years.

The Futureheads continue to make major contributions to Sunderland, on and off the stage, and help to mould it’s future as a musical city. Given the significant year that Sunderland Music City have enjoyed and the colossal strides forward the city has taken in this regard, I fully expect The Futureheads, Music City and everyone in attendance at The Fire Station to be in a celebratory mood. I know I will be.

An Evening with The Futureheads takes place on Saturday 20th June at The Fire Station, Sunderland. Limited tickets remain. Get yours here.
