A big‑screen celebration of the music video’s most iconic, inventive and era‑defining moments lands at Tyneside Cinema on 14th May, hosted by David Knight with special guest Semera Khan
Tyneside Cinema hosts something special on Thursday 14th May: a big‑screen celebration of the music video, one of the most inventive and influential artforms of the past fifty years. The inaugural meeting of the Music Video Preservation Society brings a curated sweep of iconic, ingenious and occasionally overlooked promos from the 1970s through to the 2020s, giving them the cinematic treatment they rarely receive.
The evening is hosted by David Knight — widely regarded as the UK’s leading commentator on music videos — who’ll guide audiences through the form’s evolution, cultural impact and visual experimentation. He’s joined by special guest Semera Khan, one of the most influential creative directors working in British music today. As Polydor’s Director of Creative, Khan has overseen campaigns for The Rolling Stones, Lana Del Rey, The 1975, Michael Kiwanuka and James Blake, but she also has a strong North East connection: she has commissioned and directed every Sam Fender video since his breakthrough in 2018.
The event screens several of her collaborations with Fender on the big screen, alongside a selection of classic videos she has commissioned and a wider programme spanning five decades of music‑video history. Expect the iconic, the inventive and the rarely‑seen gems — plus a few more North East heroes along the way.
