New works by 12 artists from across the North of England that were produced by Tyneside Cinema are to be included in a new series hosted by Huw Stephens on BBC Radio 6 Music.
BBC Introducing Art showcases exciting work from young British artists, aged between 16-30 to give their take on modern Britain via spoken word, soundscape, experimental music and sound-design documentary. Through their work, they explore issues that are important to them, from mental health to gaming; socialising to social injustice.
12 of the artists in the series were commissioned by Tyneside Cinema as part of New Creatives, a talent development programme supported by BBC Arts and Arts Council England, and worked with audio professionals from Naked Productions in Manchester to develop and produce their work, which was made during the pandemic.
The artists that will feature in the series, and the work they contributed, are as follows…
163 DAYS by Hannah Hodgson
FIVE STAGES by Louis Glazzard
FORGET ME NOT by Elizabeth Godber
FUNERAL OF PLUMES & LIGHTS by Frankie Blaus
GIVEN AWAY by Zoe Connel
LOVE IS MY MISSION by Abdullah Adekola
RESISTANCE IN LISTENING by Jessica El Mal
SALT by Nasima Begum
THE LIQUID DISC: FARLAND by Daniel Parry
THE STONE MEN OF NEWCASTLE by Daniel Hinds

YOU HEARD US by Luca Rutherford and Ros Fraser
Simon Drysdale, Interim CEO, Tyneside Cinema adds, “Tyneside Cinema has a long tradition of supporting and nurturing artists and filmmakers and to connect these important new voices with audiences in our venue and beyond. It’s been an immense privilege for the organisation to have led on the New Creatives project in the North of England, with the support of so many brilliant partners across the region, and wonderful to see the work as it’s published by the BBC. All of this speaks directly to why we are here: to help use film, in all its forms, to enrich the lives of people in our communities.”
The episodes are broadcast every Monday at 2am from 25th April until 6th June and can be listened to here.
