Preview: Eddie Cochran: Don’t Forget Me @ Tyneside Cinema

Tyneside Cinema hosts the North East Gala Premiere of Eddie Cochran: Don’t Forget Me on Thursday 3rd September, bringing one of the year’s most acclaimed music documentaries to Newcastle. The fully authorised film charts the life and legacy of the rock ’n’ roll pioneer, and the gala on Thursday 3rd September also marks the 10th anniversary of the Sir Graham Wylie Foundation, which has supported projects including Tyneside’s Talent Unit for emerging filmmakers.

Supported by the North East Mayoral Strategic Authority, the evening features a screening followed by a Q&A with director Kirsty Bell, actor Nick Moran, journalist John Gibson and Jack Harris, who makes his screen debut as Cochran.

Produced by Oscar and BAFTA‑winning Goldfinch Entertainment, the documentary draws on exclusive interviews with a remarkable cast — Keith Richards, Yungblud, Ronnie Wood, Roger Daltrey, Sting, Alice Cooper, Rod Stewart, Billy Idol, Suzi Quatro, Peter Frampton, Linda Perry, Kiefer Sutherland, John Waters and members of Cochran’s family.

Although Cochran died at just 21, his impact is huge: his songs have been covered more than 500 times by artists from The Beatles and The Rolling Stones to Bruce Springsteen and Led Zeppelin. Already acclaimed at Raindance and the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, the film arrives on Tyneside with serious momentum.

His life burned fast and bright, but the ripples of his sound reached across oceans and decades, shaping the very language of rock ‘n’ roll. ‘Don’t Forget Me’ is not just the title of this film. It is Eddie’s own plea, echoed in autograph books and in the lives he touched. My hope is to bring him vividly back into the world’s consciousness, to remind us not only of what we lost, but of the brilliance he gave.”
