Directed by Daniel Draper (Liverpool Story), the documentary shines a long-overdue spotlight on the women who stood at the heart of the 1984–85 Miners’ Strike—organising, resisting, and reshaping the political landscape from the coalfields of Scotland to Kent.
Told through first-hand accounts, Iron Ladies captures the grit and determination of working-class women who found themselves leading the charge against the British state. Their stories—of community, defiance, and solidarity—form the backbone of a movement that continues to echo through activism today. With many still politically active, the film offers a vital reminder of the power of collective action and the legacy of those who refused to be sidelined.
The screening is followed by a conversation with Heather Wood, whose lived experience grounds the film’s narrative, and Joanie Crump, whose work continues to amplify voices from the margins.
