Preview: balletLORENT’s Snow White: The Sacrifice @ Tyneside Cinema

Newcastle’s balletLORENT brings its haunting reimagining of Snow White to the big screen for one night only on Tuesday 21st October at Tyneside Cinema.

Snow White: The Sacrifice (15) blends stagecraft with cinematic grit, stripping the fairytale down to its darker bones. Directed for screen by Ben Crompton (Game of Thrones) and choreographed by Liv Lorent, the film explores envy, obsession and the fear of being forgotten—recasting the bond between Snow White and her mother as something fractured and feral.

Shot in Newcastle’s West End (the first feature since Get Carter), the film features a 21-strong cast including nine-year-old Willow from Bridgewater Community Primary School as young Snow White, and Caroline Reece, 61, as the Queen. The score comes from Doctor Who composer Murray Gold, with narration by Carol Ann Duffy voiced by Sarah Parish.

Originally staged at Northern Stage on Halloween 2024, the film adaptation leans into grindhouse horror and expressive choreography to deliver a visceral, unsettling experience.
