Newcastle-based painter-printmaker and Newcastle University art graduate Oliver Hoffmeister will be showcasing his work via his latest exhibition, I Wish I Had Wings, at 36 Gallery in Ouseburn.

Since graduating in 2018, Oliver has shown work as part of The Ingram Collection Young Contemporary Talent Award, London; Ghosts That Live Amongst Us in 155a Gallery, London and was long-listed for The British Contemporary Painting Prize 2021. He also produced his first solo exhibition with Berwick visual arts at Gymnasium Gallery in Berwick in 2021.

The exhibition explores the visual language of the ‘Smear frame’ through the medium of paint. Showcasing movement and obscuring figuration by way of distortion, Hoffmeister uses this visual language to “respond intuitively to the process of painting to further explore the self-referential nature of the painting process”.

The exhibition is will be open for a preview on 2nd September and is open on 3rd, 4th 10th and 11th September (between 10am-4pm).
