Newcastle artist Kate Stobbart’s new exhibition, An Attempt At Exhausting A Year’s Worth of Overheard Mobile Phone Calls, at 36 Gallery pulls together a year’s worth of mobile phone calls, captured in passing on streets, buses, parks and cafés. Presented without context, these one‑sided fragments feel both familiar and strangely disorienting, highlighting the blurred line between public and private life. Working across video, sculpture and live events, Stobbart continues her exploration of how we communicate — and miscommunicate — through tone, hesitation and gesture. A former doctor who has balanced medicine and art for decades, Kate now focuses fully on making work rooted in the subtleties of everyday interaction. The show opens with a public preview on Friday 13th March, with the exhibition running 14th–22nd March.
