No-one would dispute the Ouseburn Valley’s claim as one of the most culturally rich and diverse areas in the region, and the creative folks of the Valley have good reason to be justifiably proud of their cultural offerings.
Mere mortals can get involved in the arty end of things this month, as Spring Salon provides ample opportunity to find out what’s happening in artists’ studios. Expanded to cover the weekend of Saturday 19th to Sunday 20th March, the event is ideal for those wishing to buy some original and affordable art, as well as nosy Norrises who just fancy a neb around the studios. The Biscuit Factory, 36 Lime Street, Northern Print, Jim Edwards Studio Gallery and Mushroom Works are all taking part, with event highlights including etching demonstrations, a 20:20 print exchange, an urban landscape exhibition, fundraising art raffle and a pop-up cultural market.
Project director Rachel Brown explains that there’s a very different feel to Spring Salon from the annual open studios, which took place in November. “With the Spring event it’s a great opportunity for people to take a little more time out to get involved in a printmaking session, to leisurely watch an artist’s demonstration or to have a chat with a maker. This laid back feel makes it ideal for the whole family and with lots of activities suitable for children and plenty options for eating and drinking, it’s a great day out.”
