CIRCA Projects will present the Jarman Award touring programme for the fifth time at Tyneside Cinema on Tuesday 10th November, extending an ongoing dialogue around how British artists work with moving image and the screen today.

Artist Bedwyr Williams, following his appearance at Giff Gaff, will join them for a Q&A after a screening of works by this year’s shortlist, which include works by Adam Chodzko, Seamus Harahan, Andrea Luka Zimmerman, Gail Pickering, Alia Syed and Bedwyr Williams.

This year’s shortlist of artists were chosen for bodies of work representing uncompromising power, beauty and humour. The programme shows the breadth of practice within contemporary filmmaking, from extraordinary documentaries and lyrical storytelling to mesmerising works that interweave glimpses of the past with digital technologies.

Inspired by visionary filmmaker Derek Jarman, the Jarman Award recognises and supports artists working with moving image and celebrates the spirit of experimentation, imagination and innovation in the work of artist filmmakers.

Bedwyr Williams works across various media including performance, video, sculpture and text, often bringing them together as larger installations. He is interested in the friction between the deadly serious and the banal aspects of modern life. At the event, CIRCA Projects will pull questions for Bedwyr from a hat, dishing out handy post-it notes and pens for you to scribble down your questions during the films.

So come along, pop a question in to Bedwyr’s hat and be a part of the conversation!

The Jarman Awards will be held at The Gallery, Tyneside Cinema on Tuesday 10th November from 6pm.
