Finding themselves inspired by a shared love of ‘90s dance music, artists Susie Green and Simon Bayliss take part in Tyneside Cinema’s excellent Projections commissions this month, with a special night of screenings on Thursday 27th June.

Performing under the moniker of Splash Addict, in which Susie contributes vocals to Simon’s dance-fuelled rave anthems, they’ve performed and exhibited their work at well-respected festivals and events across the UK. Simon – who lives in St Ives – veers between ceramics, pottery and watercolour painting alongside video, performance and music production in his artistic practices, while Newcastle-based Susie’s work is primarily concerned with painting, performance and sculpture. When the two come together as Splash Addict their performance, music and video collaborations take on an almost trippy angle; recent single Big Talk and its accompanying video is full of colourful textures and rapidly building rhythms. “With Simon, there is an opportunity for an exchange of ideas, conversation and morning coffee Skype meetings.” Susie says about the duo’s working practice. “Plus I get to be extra mischievous and even more of an extrovert.”

Their event at Tyneside Cinema will further explore their inspirations, looking at how the use of green screen techniques and inexplicable rural dancing in rave music videos informs their own practice, while also encouraging the audience to discover some under the radar classics.
