Newcastle’s Tyneside Cinema has long been a champion of the best, quirkiest and most original movies from around the globe that could so easily otherwise sneak under the radar of many film fans. They’ve built up a sterling reputation for screening the very best in world cinema, and the new Passport To Cinema project sees them offering up the chance to see films from far flung places; every fortnight hosting a different country, it all starts on Monday 13th June and runs through until Sunday 4th September.

We start in Italy on Monday 13th June with Luchino Visconti’s masterpiece The Leopard, an intelligent twist on the superhero movie and we also get to take in the warmth of all time classic Cinema Paradiso. We’re also offered the chance to journey through France, Denmark, Thailand and Brazil, via perennial favourites such as Amélie, Italian For Beginners and City Of God; while also being given the chance to see UK premieres of dark Danish comedy Men & Chicken starring Mads Mikkelsen, Thai drama How To Win At Checkers, and Francofonia; a French documentary about The Louvre. With something for everyone, there’s treats for the all the family to be found in the shape of  A Cat In Paris from France, The Robot Giant from Thailand, Boy And The World from Brazil, and Happy Mother’s Day from India.

The films aren’t the only way Tyneside Cinema aim to transport you around the globe either; The Tyneside Bar Café will be offering food and drink inspired by each destination, as well as special editions of some of their most popular events including a Bollywood Afternoon Tea and a Brazilian Supper Club. World cinema offers up so many perfect slices of unique filmmaking, immersing yourself in even just one of these offerings is a must, though a passport to take in them all may be one of the best summer holidays you could ever imagine.

Passport To Cinema runs from Monday 13th June through to Sunday 4th September at Tyneside Cinema, Newcastle.
