Cultural organisation, and one of 39 Creative People and Places National Portfolio programmes funded by Arts Council England, East Durham Creates is looking to commission an artist, creative practitioner or organisation to work with people from County Durham on a project inspired by the phrase ‘Radical Acts of Joy’.

If you’re a creative practitioner, artist or organisation whose work shines a light on acts of social change, of resilience and resistance in the face of challenging times, whether that is something as small as offering a hot meal or cuppa to someone in the community who would benefit from it, or as big as changing somebody’s living circumstances for the better.

The commission can use any art form but must culminate in an event, or a series of events, that bring people together in a celebration of joy that includes feeding local people and access to a warm space.

The Commission budget is £20,000 in total and the artist or organisation is expected to work with a minimum of two communities in County Durham (this can be geographic or a community of interest) with at least one being connected to the wider county rather than in the East.

To apply please send a single PDF document (max 1000 words) or a video or audio file to jess.hunt@eastdurhamcreates.co.uk before Tuesday 29th November (5pm). For more information, visit here.
