Northumbrian rockers Clippah drop their latest single, Less Like You, taken from a selection of new material recorded with Ally Lee last year at Mill Studios in Alnwick. The track has a more ominous tone than the band’s recent offerings, with it’s heavy rhythms, driving blues-rock riffs and a transcendently soulful chorus. Lyrically, it’s a reflection of some of the lowest points people might have found themselves in over the last year.

The track comes accompanied with a cultish music video, filmed on location in rural Northumberland and directed by North East filmmaker James A. Potts, and filmed on location in rural Northumberland.

Here, the band gives us their bunch of fives…

With beer gardens open and a live music summer seemingly on the horizon, we offer you a run down of our favourite North East craft beers – to help those sunny days last!

5. GALATIA 3.9% – WYLAM BREWERY
A sentimental favourite, first sampled by band members during a gig at Bar Loco, in Newcastle. Very tropical and easy going, this one will have you crying out for the start of summer, and the return of outdoor gigs.

4. MAD JACK HA’ 3.8% – FIRST & LAST BREWERY, NORTHUMBERLAND
Escape the city with this fine example of Northumbrian brewing from F&L. Our rhythm man Jake describes this is a splendid session IPA with a strong, no frills, fruity flavour. It’s madly refreshing, and drank in homage to his granddad – who was the maddest of Jacks.

3. IRON GIANT 6% – FLASH HOUSE BREWING CO
Our drummer and grill man, Dan, favours this thick and hoppy serving from North Shields’ finest brew house. To accompany it, on a spring afternoon, he’d recommend a steak from Charlotte’s Butchery in Gosforth – which he describes simply as “lush”.

2. REVENGE OF THE STICKY BUD 8.7% – WYLAM BREWERY
Wylam’s more hefty offerings have had our bass player, Tom, wandering the fretboard for years. This one is a monstrous beverage with a big tropical boom, and sitting at 8.7% it’s guaranteed to put hairs on your chest and bring those blues notes out at any Clippah gig.

1. SKIN DEEP 4.2% – ANARCHY BREW CO
With Anarchy being the sight of our last full gig pre-pandemic, it’s likely some of the band can still taste this one, even now! A subtle, bitter pale ale, Skin Deep comes recommended from everyone. It also holds a special place in our hearts, as the can was designed by Morpethian artist Laura Hinshaw of Brick Club Tattoo, where the first Clippah tattoo (on Jake’s arm) was penned.
