Who are you and where are you from?
We’re Fat Chance Records based in Hartlepool, formed by lifelong friends Mike Kitching & Phil Elener.

What is it you do?
As a label, we want to help local bands and artists get their music out to a wider audience and pressed on physical formats, namely vinyl.

How long have you been doing it?
It’s something we’d discussed for years but we decided to pull our thumb out of our arses last year and work towards getting our first release out there.

What inspires you?
Mike: Initially for me, as a drummer, it was to get my drums on a record and pressed on vinyl, I ticked that one off my bucket list a few years ago, so progressively I felt the next step was to release music for other artists/bands through a label and help them get their music out to a wider audience.

Phil: I’m a little different to Mike, I’ve mainly just been on the periphery of the local music scene, more of a fan and supporter, although I feel I’ve always been one of those people that friends in the local scene could turn to for some honest opinions, criticism, or advice, it’s probably a bit of a cop-out response, but my main inspiration is just a love of all things music, I think that generally goes for both of us.

Tell us about your work/music.
We’ve both been involved in the local music scene for years doing one thing or another, be it in bands, promoting gigs or recording / producing, so we’re hoping the lessons we’ve learned along the way and our joint experiences can help others, that was probably our main driver when it came to starting Fat Chance, understanding how difficult some of those first steps can be without the right support base,

What have you got coming up in the future?
Our first physical release through Fat Chance is due to drop 05-May which is Josh Ingledew’s first LP Beautiful Weird, which really does live up to its title. People can pick that up at our Bandcamp, beyond that we’re hoping to start working towards our second release later in the year, so stay tuned for that!

Where can people find out more about you?
You can find us over on our Instagram and you can find our releases on Bandcamp:
