Reliably informed

Are you stuck in with that ‘what shall we do this weekend’ conundrum? We aim to offer up weekend destinations filled with the best quirky happenings, both in and out of the region. Next up, we’ll take you on a little trip around Gateshead…

ART Caedmon Hall
Located within Gateshead Central Library, Caedmon Hall’s an all-purpose gem. With regular quirky art exhibitions, weird and wonderful family events, the odd theatre show and plenty of live music (often programmed by Jumpin’ Hot Club), it’s a great all-rounder. Currently exhibiting within the library is Turbanism by Rehmat Rayatt.

STAGE Prohibition Cabaret Bar
Expect the unexpected from the alluring Prohibition Cabaret Bar, set amidst the arches just over the Tyne Bridge. The quirky space provides a stage for cabaret, variety, music hall and vaudeville acts in authentic style. Regular performances from local acts rub shoulders with worldwide touring stars, bringing a touch of glamour to Gateshead.

MUSIC Sound Inc
One for the musos, Sound Inc pride themselves on being a versatile musical hub in the deepest depths of Blaydon. A range of rehearsal spaces and quality recording gear, coupled with cheap hire rates, friendly staff and superb equipment, means Sound Inc is a great one-stop shop.

FOOD Six & The Brasserie
Call us a cop out, but we simply couldn’t leave these off our list, despite the fact you’ve been a thousand times already. For a different approach, tuck into some posh nosh at Sage Gateshead’s Brasserie, busy with pre-concert diners, or treat yourself to gorgeous grub and great views at BALTIC’s Six.
