Last year, the much-loved Sage Gateshead announced it was changing its name due to a new arena and conference centre being built next door called The Sage, and today has unveiled its new name and brand identity.

The venue will now be known as The Glasshouse International Centre For Music, and the change has prompted a renewed focus on what makes the venue so special, reiterating that it’s a space for everyone with a love of music.

Abigail Pogson, Managing Director of The Glasshouse said: “Today marks a new era, building on all that has happened over the charity’s near 20 years so far. We’re looking forward to continuing to see people across the North East enjoy and make great music, working both with musicians from across the globe and from our most musical region.”

The Glasshouse will be throwing open their doors in a free Open House event this weekend for two days of live music, building tours and music making opportunities. There will be some new ambitions too, as they’re launching a new Music Pass which seeks to support future music lovers. For every baby born in the North East and Cumbria this year the charity will give families a voucher to be spent on their concerts, gigs or classes.

Will it always be known as ‘the old Sage’? Probably. But it’s what’s inside that counts.
