BBC Introducing From The Glasshouse returns on Wednesday 30th September with a Jazz North East‑curated bill spotlighting three boundary‑pushing projects from the region’s improvised music scene. The pay‑what‑you‑decide event takes place in Sage Two and brings audiences an evening of the most exciting experimental compositions and exploratory soundworks.
New Ways of Moving in the Counterworlds pairs bassist John Pope, violinist/shakuhachi player John Garner and poet Nisha Ramayya, combining improvisation, spoken word and textural sound to explore themes of coexistence and alternative narratives. Juliana Day and Manon McCoy present a set built around harp, winds, voice and electronics, shifting between sparse atmospheres and dense, noise‑leaning passages shaped by their work within Sheffield’s Emergence Collective. The bill also features composer and pianist Helen Anahita Wilson, whose practice spans experimental composition, improvisation and sound art, drawing on living systems and bodily rhythms.
Tickets for the event can be purchased from The Glasshouse website.
