Ben Robinson enjoys a show full of comedic brilliance from the stand-up comedian and sketch writer
This is the second time I’ve seen Kerris Gibson live, and she just keeps getting better.
In her debut stage show, she explores the theme of ‘getting on’ and what it means to her. From mourning the loss of a family member, to mental health struggles, and anxiety over finding her place as a comic – she never failed to add humour to a situation. By blending this drama and her laugh-out-loud comedy, Gibson created a performance I never wanted to end. No, really! The show may have only lasted an hour but I could have revelled in Gibson’s humour for far longer.
It was just Gibson, her dressing room, and the audience in the palm of her hand – that’s all it took for her to create brilliance. Through comedy, she recounted her experiences of growing up and “getting on,” and joke after joke, she had the audience erupting with laughter. It’s easy to make the audience feel comfortable when the comic feels so at ease doing what they do best, Gibson is a prime example of this. From air fryer gags to hilarious voice notes and a touch of dark humour, the laughs just kept coming.
