FOCUS: Dan Daly

Gateshead College has launched its own independent record label, Baltic Edge Records, with the aim of showcasing the work of their talented students. Their debut release came in the form of Northumberland artist Dan Daly’s track Clear Thoughts. Here, we find out a bit more about him.

Who are you and where are you from?

Hi, my name is Dan Daly and I come from the rural countryside in Northumberland.

What is it you do?

I’m an up and coming music producer and DJ, playing my original songs across Newcastle.

How long have you been doing it?

I’ve always been involved with music, first learning guitar when I was about 10 but switched over to music production when I was about 15 years old, using free online software to create simple tracks. When I first started college, I really started taking music seriously, learning more and more techniques in music production to then releasing my first song a couple months ago.

What inspires you?

What inspires me is the freedom that comes with production. You can use any sound and turn it into an amazing creation. I’m also heavily inspired by multiple artists, such as Fred Again and Sammy Virji; trying to learn their techniques and skills and how I can use them in my own production, inspiring more and more to learn more about production.

Tell us about your music

I create UK Garage, House tracks. They’re all uplifting and energetic, ready to be played in clubs. Like I mentioned earlier, I released my debut single called Clear Thoughts. It’s a very melodic track, but with groovy drums and a heavy bass. The uniqueness in it as well should really help me make a name for myself in the future.

What have you got coming up in the future?

In the future, I am really hoping to release more and more tracks, get some shows booked, and in a year’s time, be playing all my original songs at a festival!
