Reliably informed

Newcastle-based indie folk singer-songwriter Feroz prepares to release his new single, SlowRise this month, taken from his forthcoming EP, How Do I Sleep At Night, which explores themes of insomnia, lust and separation. Feroz performs a show at The Cluny supporting The Beauty Pageant and ottercorp on Friday 14th August. Here, we find out more about him.

Who are you and where are you from?

My name is Feroz, I’m a British-Pakistani artist from London based in Newcastle.

What is it you do?

I write songs in an attempt to preserve my life experience, referencing jazz and folk quite a bit.

What inspires you?

Mainly my friends I would say. They all work really hard in what they do and figuring out their own shit. They’ve got beautiful and chaotic stories in their own ways, I’m lucky to know them.

Tells us about your music.

When I turned 25 I had a strong sense that life was fleeting and I was forgetting important parts of mine. So I started writing under my own name to try and memorialise things in a way. I want to be able to listen back to my music and be taken back to where I was when I wrote it. Even if that’s 40 years in the past. So there is a nostalgic quality to what I do. And I’m trying to deliver an experience that’s honest.

What have you got coming up in the future?

I’m releasing an EP in November called How Do I Sleep At Night?.

Where can people find out more about you?

You can follow my Instagram page @feroz____ and I will be updating Bandcamp soon with the new music!
