Focus: Isabel Hudson

Who are you and where are you from?
My name is Isabel Hudson and I am from Seaham, County Durham

What is it you do?
I am a singer-songwriter, in the indie pop/rock genre.

How long have you been doing it?
I have been singing, playing piano and writing songs most of my life, then, during COVID I decided to learn guitar and started taking songwriting more seriously. It was during this time I joined the Young Musicians Project in Sunderland, run by We Make Culture, which introduced me to other musicians and artists in the area, where we got to create music and perform with each other! Since then, I’ve been working on original music, gigging and working on my craft at University in Liverpool. Since graduating, I returned home to the North East, where I’ve been working on upcoming music!

What inspires you?
I am mostly inspired by events that happen in my life and the feelings that come with those events. A lot of my writing comes from the change and challenges faced with moving away from home, friendships and new relationships. I find myself also being inspired by people I surround myself with and will often write songs based on experiences lived by my friends.

Tell us about your music.
Sonically, I think my music is a blend of genres I enjoy listening to. It combines warm lead vocals that sing catchy pop melodies with high-energy electric guitars and pops of 80s-inspired synths. I’m inspired by artists such as Nieve Ella, Wolf Alice and Holly Humberstone.

What have you got coming up in the future?
I have just released my debut single, Thank God, a song that I have been wanting to release for a while, so I’m very excited it is finally out! More music to be released in the near future.
