Who are you and where are you from?
I’m a poet and playwright from Sheffield. I started out doing music journalism by blagging my way into venues when I was 16. I went to work in the music industry and was raised on sticky floorboards of venues and smoke breaks by the side of tour buses. I studied in Manchester, modelled in London and ended up putting my feet up in the North East. I take huge pride in my hometown of High Green, but I also find sanctuary in the North East culture.

What is it you do?
My soul lies in poetry and cinema. I published my first poetry collection in 2025 and now I’m expanding on that and moving into my dream of creating worlds through plays and film. Drowning in Honey is out now and SPADEFOOT is out this Autumn. I like the idea of people experiencing what I write without me ever being in the room, yet somehow we are still connected.

How long have you been doing it?
I’ve been writing for as long as I remember but I truly invested in it last year and this year I’m ready to engulf myself in it. I’ve decided to self publish as for me it’s less about credit and income and more about sharing my work. I feel very blessed.

What inspires you?
I take a lot of inspiration from my surroundings and the people I love. Storytelling can happen in so many beautiful ways. I can find inspiration in any corner. Poetry is in the streets, you just have to find it. I love having conversations with people I care about, delving into their outlooks and drawing inspiration from their points of view too. You’ll always find synchronicities.

Tell us about your work.
Drowning in Honey is my debut poetry collection and after its success (which baffles me and I feel so fortunate for) I was able to publish an extended edition this August. Coming up is SPADEFOOT, my debut play. It explores themes that I feel are very relevant right now. It asks the question of what we can bury, inherit and what happens when everything comes to the surface.

What have you got coming up in the future?
Drowning in Honey is out now and SPADEFOOT comes out in Autumn. I’m so excited to share projects.

Where can people find out more about you?
You can keep up with me on www.eleanormerretti.com. And Drowning in Honey is available online through Amazon and Waterstones.
