Focus: Brainfreeze

Who are you and where are you from?
My name is Ben, my producer name is Brainfreeze, I’m from the west end of Newcastle, currently based in Gateshead

What is it you do?
I make experimental hip hop

How long have you been doing it?
I’ve been making music since I was a teenager, Brainfreeze started during the 2020 lockdown era onwards

What inspires you?
The last decade or so I’ve been really digging the UK hip hop scene, been listening to a lot of Cult of the Damned and Four Owls and their solo projects, I also listen to a lot of electronic and experimental music and take a lot of inspiration from films and mythology

Tell us about your music.
My first album is called ENTER THE DREAMTIME, it’s about the hero’s journey, the warrior mindset, shamanism and forest bathing, the singles have all been dropping on full moons and the album drops on the summer solstice, the album is aimed at anyone who is struggling in life, there are loads of jewels in there to find that might spark something off for someone when they need it

What have you got coming up in the future?
After this? there’s going to be more music from myself and 28Breax. together as Dirty Chips and it will be basically be a bunch of house music with an outer space theme and then spending time working out how to follow that; so far we have an album about sauce, a follow up EP about being trapped in a simulation and then another EP about cardboard – so space seemed like the right direction in the saga
