Who are you and where are you from?
Hi my name is lojaii, I’m a 20-year-old small aspiring indie artist from Newcastle upon Tyne.
I am a singer songwriter and I write alternative indie/bedroom pop music that I record and produce in my bedroom. And I have just released my first single ‘cat & mouse’!
How long have you been doing it?
I have always loved anything music and art related and have been singing for as long as I can remember, I took singing lessons from an early age and continued all throughout my school years. And after school I went on to study music performance and production at Newcastle college where I fell in love with writing my own music and performing in front of audiences.
So I have been pursuing a career in music since my early teens and have decided now is the right time for me to release my own music.
I am inspired by so many things and artists. I love the story telling aspect of songwriting and being able to express the feelings that are too strong to say through my music. But if I were to choose one artist that has always inspired me, I would say Olivia Rodrigo. When I listened to her debut album ‘SOUR’ back in 2021, her raw, vulnerable lyrics and the emotion in her vocals have held my mind captive ever since. I love how her music reaches across multiple genres from her melancholic ballads all the way to her aggravated rocky pop punk songs. And I hope that one day I am able to express that much flare and emotion through my own music.
Tell us about your music.
I have just released my first single called Cat & Mouse. It is an indie/alternative pop song about overthinking and obsessing over someone and second guessing their true intentions, playing on the push and pull dynamic much like the relationship between a cat and a mouse. Constantly chasing answers and being toyed with. Taking inspiration from Olivia’s playful writing style and even a bit of Sombr’s alternative Melodies.
What have you got coming up in the future?
After the release of my first single I am constantly writing new lyrics and ideas almost every day, and am currently working on my next single that I plan on releasing in July called ‘tongue tied’! It is definitely a lot more upbeat than cat & mouse, giving more or a pop/rock sound but still leaving room for that alternative melodramatic indie sound.
