Super Seven: Mt Misery

Hartlepool’s indie-pop outfit Mt. Misery share their brand new single Waking Up. The track was recorded in a remote cottage on the banks of Loch Fyne in Scotland and mixed by Ian Catt (St. Etienne).

Sonically, the song with its catchy synth riff, frisky rhythms and light, dreamy vocals channels bands such as Teenage Fanclub, Fountains of Wayne and The Lemonhead.

What’s the most memorable trip you’ve ever taken, and what made it so special?
We went to Inveraray for a couple of weeks last year and stayed in this cottage with a little studio next door. That’s where we recorded “Waking Up”. We were pretty remote so no one cared if we were recording drums until 3am. That’s our idea of fun!

If you could live in any fictional world for a week, where would you go and what would you do?
I would spend a week on Windfall Island from Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, enjoy the background music, and maybe do some side quests.

What’s your go-to karaoke song, and do you have any memorable karaoke moments?
Eddie is the only one of us who partakes for him it’s “The Gambler” by Kenny Rogers. 

What’s the most unusual or surprising talent you have that most people don’t know about?
He keeps it on the down-low, but Ste is a keen juggler. It’s a thrill to see him toss the beanbags around. 

If you could have any animal, real or imaginary, as a pet, what would it be and why?
I have a nervous little cat who wouldn’t like living with other animals, so I would have to say a Tamagotchi. 

What’s the weirdest food you’ve ever tried, and did you like it?
This one is difficult. The only thing I can think of is biting into a Babybel with the wax still on when I was 10. 

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever received, and who gave it to you.
In golf: “Swing your swing, even if it’s ugly as fuck” – Lewis says he learned this from “all the greats”, so I think he might be paraphrasing.
