Super Seven: Club Paradise

Newcastle indie-rockers Club Paradise have been busy bees as of late. Having released their double A-side Neighbourhood/Another Life in May the band have been busy releasing singles from their upcoming six-track EP, Life On TV.

Their third single What If These Days – a slick, groove-filled ballad complete with smooth and soulful vocals – was released on 30th August and their fourth and final single from the EP, Runaways – a stadium-sized drive-time rock anthem – is set for release on Friday 13th September.

Here we find out about the band with some randomly generated questions…

1. What is the most unexpected thing that happened to you this week?
Jackson: Mortgage application acceptance (sorry boring adult stuff)
Nathan: Swimming next to the Aragonese Castle in Ischia.
Ryan: I watched Peevie Wonders whip out a cover of Grease Lightning at the Cluny, mental.

2. If you could have dinner with any historical figure, who would it be and why?
Jackson: Hank Williams, just because I think he is the most influential country music artist. It would be interesting to hear his takes on current music.
Nathan: Steve Irwin (a historical figure in my mind), to discuss the differences between crocodiles & alligators.
Ryan: I’d like to ask Chris McCandless what life was actually like living like a nomad in Alaska

3. What’s one book you think everyone should read at least once in their life?
Jackson: Probably the twin peaks books written by Mark Frost (thank you to Rick from Ghost//Signals for gifting me them!)
Nathan: The Rebel, Albert Camus.
Ryan: Ham on Rye, Charles Bukowski 

4. If you could instantly become an expert in something, what would it be?
Jackson: Skateboarding without a shadow of a doubt. It’s one of the coolest things to be good at, and being an expert would thrust you into Tony Hawk levels of notoriety.
Nathan: Tattooing yourself.
Ryan: Drawing freehand or using tools with my hands…. my hands are useless.

5. What’s the most valuable lesson you’ve learned from a mistake you’ve made?
Jackson: In this band, before we leave anywhere whether it be to or from a gig. From a rehearsal or recording session. We now conduct things we call “idiot checks” where we go back to see if we’re missing anything important and or expensive. We made the mistake of not doing them and lost stuff!
Nathan: The longer you wait between making a mistake, admitting to the mistake & taking accountability for it, the more difficult it becomes to progress and move on.
Ryan: The most valuable lesson is that I will not make that mistake again. 

6. If you could witness any event past, present, or future, what would it be?
Jackson: Ben Stokes at Headingley 2019 during the Ashes. I can still remember watching the game in a pub where the football commentary got switched over to the cricket because it was so intense.
Nathan: Daft Punk at Coachella, 2006. 
Ryan: Not a specific event but I wish I could go back and see The Eagles in the 70s. 

7. What’s something that always brings a smile to your face, no matter how often you experience it?
Jackson: Whipping out a cover that people in the audience turn to each other and go “Oh my god! It’s this song!”
Nathan: Petting a dog on the street.   
Ryan: Going bowling. I’m so shit, but it’s so good.
