Preview: Unity In Sunderland

Unity in Sunderland returns to Sunderland Minster on Saturday 15th August, inviting people to come together for a day of creativity, celebration and community spirit. Free and open to all, the event highlights the diverse cultures that make Sunderland such a vibrant place to live, bringing voluntary organisations, community groups, local artists and residents into one welcoming space.

The programme offers a mix of live music, theatre and spoken word, including forum theatre, interactive games and performances throughout the day. Unfolding Theatre present Dear Sunderland, an uplifting blend of spoken word and music inspired by letters written by people across the city. They’re joined by community band A Band Like This, the drum‑powered joy of Sacred Sounds CIC, jazz and blues trio After Evensong, and local acoustic outfit Longslip with a set of original songs.

Hosted in the historic Minster at the heart of the city, Unity in Sunderland aims to strengthen connections, celebrate local talent and create opportunities for people of all ages to meet, collaborate and enjoy a relaxed, inclusive day out.

Member of Unity in Sunderland Organising Committee and Canon Provost of  Sunderland Minster Revd Canon Clare MacLaren adds, “Unity in Sunderland is all about  celebrating Sunderland and the people who make it such a fantastic place to live.

“It’s an opportunity to enjoy great entertainment, discover the amazing work of local  organisations, and meet neighbours old and new in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere.”
