The renowned Newcastle-based bassist performs two events on the 17th and 18th of April, which are to be recorded and become the basis for the next full-length release
Bass player extraordinaire, John Pope brings his super-talented quintet of local improvisers together for not one, but two nights at DIY art space, Star & Shadow Cinema.
This ensemble presents a suite of brand new music, infused with the freedom and anything-goes attitude (alongside the skills to make it sound superb) that they’ve become known for on the UK jazz scene.
The show was put on with the support of Help Musicians, in the form of a development award via the prestigious Peter Whittingham Jazz Awards. This unique two-night performance will be recorded and go on to become the backbone of the John Pope Quintet’s next full-length release.
The lineup for this show includes John Pope on double bass, Jamie Stockbridge on alto and Baritone Saxophones, Faye MacCalman on Tenor Saxophone and Clarinet, Graham Hardy on Trumpet and Johnny Hunter on Drums and Percussion.
Get yourself along to The Star & Shadow in Newcastle on Monday 17th and Tuesday 18th April, free yourself from the shackles of the rigidity and structure that you may come to expect from music and instead celebrate the joy of boundless creativity.
