Reliably informed

Nothing can stop Shakespeare… Not COVID-19, not social distancing, not anything at all. Something that the acting degree students at The Northern School Of Art in Hartlepool found out when their performance of A Midsummers Night’s Dream at ARC, Stockton was not to be (wrong play I know) and instead became a series of monologues from the production that are now available online.

The world became a stage as bedrooms, living rooms and even a forest in Finland became the backdrops for a range of pandemic-enforced solo performances, which were released initially to tie-in with Shakespeare’s birthday on 23rd April in response to the Royal Shakespeare Company’s callout to #ShareYourShakespeare.

Jonny Bussell, programme leader for the BA (Hons) Acting for Stage and Screen degree adds, “The second year students should now be getting ready for opening their production of ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’ so this was a great opportunity to showcase the good work that had been going on in rehearsals prior to lockdown.

“We’re in the process of working with ARC to find a new date for the show once this is all over but it’s been really great to have the opportunity to see the students’ work.”

The monologues can be viewed on the School’s FaceBook and Instagram page as well as their Twitter feed:
