Sunderland Shorts Film Festival returns on 17th-22nd October to showcase the finest short films to North-East audiences. Since 2015 the event has shown films from a wide range of genres and screened work from local talent and young & emerging filmmakers, alongside BAFTA and Academy Award-nominated films. Expect more inspiring films at this year’s event, alongside a wide range of Q&As with cast and crew, masterclasses, networking opportunities and industry events.

Joining Best Comedy, Best Documentary, Best Horror and so on, in 2022’s award category is Best Music Video, with screenings taking place at Pop Recs Ltd. So if you’re a future Melina Matsoukas or Michel Gondry then submit your videos here. Regular deadline is 15th July.

The winning films will receive £300 cash prizes, kindly provided by University of Sunderland, and winners will be decided upon the opinion of audiences, as well as contributions from programming and reviewing teams. All screened films will receive a festival laurel, with honourable mentions and winning films receiving an additional corresponding category-based laurel.
