A petition has been started to stop the Durham rehearsal and recording space from being demolished
Rocking Horse Rehearsal Rooms is a staple in the Durham music and culture scene. Opened in Feb 2011 the venue has five rehearsal rooms, with around thirty to forty bookings a week, and a recording studio that has recorded over three hundred artists and provided audio services and voiceover recordings for television and radio. They have been a key component in the development of many local artists and music activists, hosting regular local music nights at Fish tank and Empty Shop, as well as providing a venue for local original bands to host small scale gigs and showcasing acts performing live sessions via their YouTube channel.
Sadly Rocking Horse is under threat of demolition for the development of their premises by the landlord. With its importance in the community and with Durham currently bidding to be the UK’s City Of Culture this invaluable institution needs to be saved and so a petition has been started.
So far the petition is approaching two and a half thousand signatures but as many signatures as possible are needed. To sign the petition, click here.
