Reliably informed

We here at NARC have decided we’d end 2015 with a fond look back at the year just gone, and who better to tell us than some people who’ve had an utterly fantastic year; and for whom 2016 is sure to be just as exciting.

Our Christmas Eve installment sees a chat with indie pop punk quartet Martha.

So Martha, how was your 2015?
JC – We’ve done 2 full UK tours, one with the North East’s greatest ever punk band Milky Wimpshake and one with Radiator Hospital, Philadelphia’s greatest ever punk band. Countless other shows all over the place. A tour of Norway, Sweden and Denmark. Glastonbury. Vida Festival in Spain. We released two split records, one with Benny the Jet Rodriguez from California and one with our besties Radiator Hospital. So, fairly quiet I’d say.

What was your best moment of the year?
Nathan – Us all camping in JC’s lovely caravan at indietracks.

Your worst moment of the year?
Nathan – JC’s lovely caravan getting flattened by a tree during hurricane desmond.

Your favourite band of 2015?
Naomi – We’re all very excited about Milk Crimes from Leeds.

Your favourite song of 2015?
JC – Dime Store Cowgirl by Kacey Musgraves – totally mint, Pageant Material was my favourite album of the year.
Nathan– Dreamers by Trust Fund, Sunday Morning by All Dogs, Shadow of Death by Max Levine Ensemble. Loads man.
Daniel – Dancing in the Moonlight by Thin Lizzy
Naomi – Dancing in the Moonlight by Thin Lizzy

Your favourite film of 2015?
Nathan – Carol, Sicario or Relatos Salvages.
JC – The only film I sat through this year was hobo with a shotgun

Your favourite gig of 2015?
JC – We played at the Stadium of Light last Saturday. Sunderland got beat and we played outside in a blizzard but it’s not every day you get to share a stage with Kevin Ball.
Daniel – The show we played in Stockholm was absolutely class. We covered Masshysteri and I sang in pidgeon-swedish and everyone went nuts.
Nathan – Probs playing Glastonbury with Billy Bragg.

Finally, what’s 2016 got in store for you?
JC – We’re going to be quiet until the summer. Our new LP should be out in June, so we’re going to be touring that, doing a couple of festivals, putting a few thousand miles on the van. Oh and I’m probably gonna run for Durham County Council. Hoping for another quiet one really.
