My Inspiration: Dutch LX – Yakuza

County Durham rockers, Dutch LX follow up their debut single, It Ain’t Easy Loving You, with their latest offering Yakuza (out Friday 30th April). The track switches from the cool nonchalant groove of the verses to a potent roadhouse riot in the chorus and is filled with hooks a plenty, some gritty vocals and a delicious solo that leads into an anthemic drop down. 

Here, James Dixon from the band tells us what inspired their latest release…

I take a lot of inspiration from artists who shake up their sound and experiment with other genres, people like Prince and David Bowie. I think our latest single Yakuza is a good example of that. The verse is inspired by 60s groove-orientated RnB (I think I was actually listening to Dusty Springfield when I wrote the main guitar riff in the verse) but then in the chorus the whole thing flips on its head and you get these heavy, thick power chords. I really enjoyed the contrast these two parts made when I put them together. Thematically the lyrics come from quite a personal place but I think it is pretty obvious what the track is about if you read between the lines. This being said I would rather people listen to the song and develop their own meaning and interpretation. Sometimes it can ruin the magic if you are spoon fed every little detail.
