Prepare to swing as the nostalgia-enthusiasts come to Wearside
Rob Heron & The Tea Pad Orchestra might not be the most terrifying sight you’ve ever seen but they’re spine-chillingly good at what they do. One of the hardest working bands in the region, the group’s eclectic mash up of Americana, blues, skiffle, folk and swing are completely charming and can get even the most static soul moving. Penned by Mr. Heron himself, the band’s songs often contain a hefty dose of satire and a bit of social commentary (just look at recent single Working Man Blues for evidence) but it’s all handled with a light touch that most groups would envy.
With it being Halloween, it’s a distinctly different way to celebrate the spookiest night of the year and the band might even get into the spirit of the evening. If you’re content to do the lindyhop and the Charleston to a mighty fine collection of Geordie swing tunes though, you’re already in the right place.
Rob Heron & The Tea Pad Orchestra play at Independent, Sunderland on Saturday 31st October.
