Sunderland rock quartet Hivemind headline Independent on Saturday 10th October, with support from Critch and Frog Eggs. Having shared stages with the likes of The LaFontaines, My Vitriol, Fangclub and False Heads, and amassed more than 100,000 streams and views, the band have built a strong following through extensive touring, festival appearances and high-profile support slots.

Ahead of the show, the band tell us what their dream show would look like…

Being that 3/4ths of Hivemind are pet owners, and 4/4ths are animal lovers, we’ve had a very long discussion about how our dream show would incorporate the animals we love, as well as the humans we love

If there was really no money or reality factor, then we would use that brand new shrink-machine that was just invented by that really ethical and cool billionaire – you know the one? That’s right, the one that doesn’t exist yet – and everyone that bought a ticket would be shrunk to teeny tiny size where we could all be on a level playing field with our pets and other furry friends. I guess we’d have to put our instruments through the machine too. We wouldn’t want our guitar amps that go all the way to 11 to hurt their tiny ears

To be honest, when we talked about this, we didn’t think of any other bands to play alongside us, but now I’m thinking about it I’m stuck between making the line-up either a bunch of obvious animal band names – The Beatles, The Animals, Def Leppard, Modest Mouse, Wolf Alice, etc. Or we just open for the headline band that is that viral video on Instagram of those cats badly playing kids’ instruments

We’ll open for the cats

We’ll play our entire back catalogue because we love playing so much, and because we’re all teeny tiny, we’ll have loads more stamina than usual. That’s how it works, right? Thanks, ethical billionaire!

We believe that art should be free (unless it’s our show at Independent in Sunderland on the 10th of October. Buy a ticket, please!) so entry to the Hivemind & cats show is free. Everyone gets a teeny tiny t-shirt to remember the event by, as well as a free bag of catnip

The gig takes place in someone’s back garden – we feel like this show has to be outdoors so we can all run freely through the very, very tall grass (we’re all shrunk, remember?) It’s a beautiful summer evening; we take the stage just as the sun is setting, where it’s still warm but not too hot. The crowd is filled with small versions of our best friends and all our pets. We play our set, get off stage and prepare to have our world rocked by the best cats in the game

One of our nine lives well spent!
