The Serbian film festival presents some of its best short films
If you’ve ever seen an Eastern European animation before then you know that they can sometimes be more than a little surreal. Balkanima, a festival based in Belgrade, Serbia – wants to promote just that kind of thing when it brings animation from Southeastern Europe and the Balkans to the Star and Shadow Cinema on Wednesday 18th February.
Specifically, the screenings at the Star and Shadow will be looking at some of the shorter cuts from this year’s festival, a veritable feast of little treats for cinephiles to sink their teeth into. With the longest film on the bill still being under nine minutes (the intriguingly titled Fantasmagorie), it’ll be a quick-fire evening showcasing the best that European animation has to offer. Expect everything from hand-drawn sketches to Claymation and even maybe some CGI as eleven of the best Serbian animators bring their works to Tyneside. It might get a bit weird but surely that’s why we love a bit of animation.
