Who are you and where are you from?
I’m Lottie Willis, a singer-songwriter from County Durham.

What is it you do?
I play piano and write songs, do gigs and perform covers also.

How long have you been doing it?
I’ve been singing as long as I can remember, completing singing exams and singing covers but didn’t start writing until 2018 when I joined We Make Culture’s, Young Musicians Project. It was where I began to really build my confidence when meeting people with the same interests as me. I have since then been involved in gigs in venues such as the Sage and independent performing alongside artists such as The lake poets and Paul Smith.

What inspires you?
Artists such as Lana Del Ray, Florence Welsh and Amy Winehouse inspire me massively, from their lyrics to the sounds they create in their music. I tend to write my music a lot from personal experiences and how I feel at the time of writing the song. I think this is often very relatable for lots of listeners.

Tell us about your music.
Stripped back piano-folk is infused with electronic pop production to create the exciting track that is Mirrors. This is about supporting a friend through a tough time. Through the past year many people have struggled with being in lockdown, this song could help people to realise that better times are coming and however they are feeling won’t last forever. There will always be someone there that will be there for you no matter what.

What have you got coming up in the future?
Hopefully lots more gigs, lots more tunes written, recorded and released and we will see what happens from there.
