The electronic artist sums up his sound in three tracks
Newcastle artist MARQelectronica returns a Nervous, is a deep house banger all about a lover with no shame that is making you Nervous.
Here, MARQelectronica tries to sum up his sound with three tracks…
Freemasons – Rain Down Love
This track is just one big funky dance-pop track from the UK house outfit that has huge vocals from soul diva Seidah Garrett. A big funky bass line and disco strings with synth edges that hang like musical crystals on a kickass chandelier of drums and dance beats. I hear it and I dance and sing along which is embarrassing when it’s in ASDA and I’m manhandling the soft fruit. It’s the infectious dance vibe I go for with my gigs that lift spirits despite the often serious lyrical content. It inspired my album Savage Times. Reminding me of nights out in London at XXL, RVT or Heaven. I did songs similar to this on my album and some of my new tracks at an ‘anything goes’ night and had rock and metal fans dancing and joining in on my songs from the start of my set. It was absolutely amazing.
Missy Elliott – One Minute Man
RnB bass and drum beats adorned by funky synth loops and slinky sexy soundscapes with a sassy naughty vocal hat compliments the attitude-filled lyrics. I try to channel that sass and attitude in songs and on stage with tracks like Next To Nothing and You Do What You Want all about the current political nightmare we live in in the UK and the cost of living crisis. But like Missy, I hopefully raise the funk and dance quotient so folks listen but move their asses too, while I jump around the stage and get bantertastic with them when I can. I love the synth and drum beats that Missy and Timbaland use, they helped change the music landscape with their production skills on so many artists tracks from Destiny’s Child and 702 to Ginuwine and even some movie soundtracks and to work with them or any one mentioned here would be a dream.
Gorgon City with MNEK – Ready For Your Love
Arguably a modern classic. Moody, funky and the bass attacks like a fiend in the chorus. I sing this at a covers gig and the floor is packed. Funky and romantic with amazing vocals showcasing MNEK’s soul-filled vocals and range. The track mashes romance with deep house. I love it! My new tracks like Never Go Away and Push are very influenced by the deep house bass and synth sounds and lyrically, I use romance and fears in my lyrics. The vocals from MNEK that I mentioned are soaring and go from subdued and soft to big and funky as all get out. Something I strive for with my performances and worked hard on when I had vocal coaching. Just before Christmas I played at Downcast (brilliant venue and amazing food) and Never Go Away had folk dancing and joining in.
