The North-East alt-rock/dream-pop trio try to sum up the sounds of their debut release using three other tracks
Prospect of Power are a North East three‑piece blending alt‑rock and dream‑pop, pairing hazy guitars with heavier edges and quietly intense melodies. Their sound shifts between airy atmosphere and driving indie energy, creating songs that feel both expansive and immediate.
Their debut single, Chapter One, sees relentless fuzzed‑up surf‑rock riffs collide with driving rhythms, while an ambient vocal line rests lightly on top before lifting into a glorious sky‑high chorus. It’s a moreish lo‑fi garage‑psych burst that clocks in at just 1 minute 41 seconds and will have you hitting repeat on you digital media play.

Little Girl – Death From Above 1979
The monster bass riff and pedal affects are the first similarity with this song. Catchy, driving and a bit menacing.
Sebastian Grainger’s vocals are similar to Sarah’s in that they evoke desperation, shrill sincerity and a loss of control. There’s also a sensual quality to the way he sings the words which I think chapter one emulates.
Dance with the night- Yeah Yeah Yeahs
Most obviously, the menacing guitar riff that hooks and ensnares you for the duration of this track feels as addictive as the one that rips right through Chapter One.
Karen O’s vocal delivery has the same fierce and unnerving grit as Sarah’s. It conjures the feeling of standing on the edge of a building, but with no desire to jump. Your voice roaring from the thrill of playing with fire.
Feeling powerful but still being able to embrace and lose yourself in moments of madness is a hard balance to strike as a woman making rock music. You often get typecasted as ‘crazy’ or a ‘loose cannon’. Karen O makes doing so look easy and effortlessly cool, and this same wild spirited feeling runs through Chapter One.
Your Love’s Whore – Wolf Alice
The band we bonded over most immediately upon meeting was Wolf Alice. We are fans of everything they have created, but this track in particular inspired the single as we really wanted the “aaahs” of our chorus to have the same guttural feel.
Ellie’s voice can dance between softness and bite, this encapsulates the duality of Chapter One’s lyrics. To be opening the book, and having a fresh start, whilst also letting your past consume you.
