Reliably informed

So, how was your 2021?
Focussed. Discovered the joys of sobriety. Found acceptance, both in myself and new friends. Have hope for the future for the first time in a long time. Finally got to a point where I regularly enjoy being on a stage, rather than endure. Averaged attending my usual 50+ gigs, despite only starting in May!

What was your best moment?
Newcastle United being taken over by Saudi owners.

And your worst moment?
Newcastle United being taken over by Saudi owners.

Who was your favourite band/artist this year?
Kim Petras for becoming the first transgender artist to play the MTV Awards. Go, girl! Also, a big shout out to Mouses. Wish I’d discovered this awesome band earlier, but I look forward to many blinding live shows in the future!

Your favourite song of the year?
Keep Your Head Up – Ben Howard. It might not have been released this year, but it’s got me through regardless.

Recommended album?
Little Simz – I Might Be Introvert. Grey Area was a great album but only a sign of what was to come. The sound of an artist at her absolute peak.

Favourite TV show of the year?
Pose – Achingly beautiful, sad and poignant. Some great shows can run too long but keeping it to 3 sublime seasons ensured it will remain in the heart for an eternity.

Your favourite film?
The Suicide Squad. I was one of the few people to love the original, but this just raised the barre to a whole new level. So much better than I ever dared to hope for.

Best book you read?
Detransition, Baby by Torrey Peters.

Best podcast?

Favourite venue of the year?
Bobiks. Cracking little venue – run by the tireless unsung Russell Poad – where I’ve discovered so many great new bands.

What was your favourite gig/show of the year?
Grace Petrie @ The Cluny, 29th November. Emotional, empowering, fun. Everything a great gig should be.

Any upcoming artists we should keep an eye out for in 2022?
Abnorm’s confidence grows with every show, Pacer are a beautiful mess, Sarah Mavin will be incredible if she finds the belief in herself that others have, and though it’s early days, Dinky Bossetti are undoubtedly gonna be immense!

Any predictions for next year?
Transition. Immunity. Clarity. Happiness. Boris to follow Mike Ashley into the distant memory banks.
